Manchester United 1-0 Wolves: Rashford the difference maker despite kick-off drama

Marcus Rashford came off the bench to score United’s winner and put all the before the match drama to rest.

Marcus Rashford was once again the decider for Manchester United as he came off the bench to score the game’s only goal against Wolverhampton at Molineux Stadium to fire Manchester United into the top 4 momentarily.

The big talking point of the game was perhaps the fact that despite scoring two goals in his last two outings for United after the World Cup,

Marcus Rashford was benched by Erik ten Hag

for “Internal disciplinary” reasons.

The game wasn’t particularly an interesting one as neither team seemed to make a breakthrough in the first half. However, both teams had serious chances, especially United that had two clear chances which were squandered by Martial and Garnacho.

Overall, Wolves was the better team in the first half as they seemed to have a plan of attack but Manchester United slowly came into their own in the second half.

Seeing his team’s need for reinforcements up front, ten Hag brought in Rashford at half time to replace Garnacho who had a rather lackluster performance. The England International paid off his manager’s trust in him, scoring Manchester United’s winner in the 76th minute after a powerful finish put the ball past Jose Sa.

Rashford

managed to score a second one in the 85th minute but the goal was ruled out as handball by VAR. Wolves tried to fight back as well as substitute Raul Jimenez struck the ball with his header but it was brilliantly kept out by De Gea in the final minutes of the game.

Manchester United will now move into the top four with 32 points ahead of Tottenham who have 30 points. United’s next game will be at home against Bournemouth on January 3.
