Gundogan calls Japan winner “one of the easiest in World Cup history”

Asian teams once again stunned World Cup big boys as Takuma Asano scored the winner for Japan over Germany.

Ilkay Gundogan who scored from the spot to put Germany ahead of Japan in the first half, wasn’t happy with how Die Mannschaft conceded Japan’s goal, going as far as calling it “one of the easiest in World Cup history”.

Germany

seemed to be heading towards a win after they won the first half quite deservedly. But Japan came alive in the second half and it was a Bundesliga player who scored the leveler for Japan: Ritsu Doan.

Then came the goal that Gundogan refers to, as Niklas Sule blundered the offside trap quite amateurishly and Asano was played onside by Itakura’s passwhich. He eventually drove into the top of Neuer’s goal.

"We made it too easy for Japan, especially with the second goal. I don't know if an easier goal has ever been scored at a World Cup,"

Gundogan told the press.

"It can't happen. This is a World Cup. We dominated the game for the most part, Manu [Neuer] saved us once in the second half. That's why we have him.

"We had incredible opportunities up front, but we didn't score the second goal. How the goals came about was far too easy.

"There was a bit of a lack of conviction that we could hold the ball and move, that we could offer ourselves.

"We relied on long balls in the second half and the short balls we played were lost easily and quickly. You felt like not everyone wanted the ball."

Japan

got their first win over Germany with their past two meeting being a draw and a win for Germany.
