Germany star Leroy Sane to miss Japan game with injury

Leroy Sane will miss Germany's first game in the World Cup against Japan on Wednesday.

The

German

Football Association has confirmed that

Sane

will miss the game against Japan due to a knee injury. They have not said for how long will he be out of action.

A DFB statement read:

"The German national team must be without Leroy Sane in their World Cup opening game against Japan on Wednesday.

"The 26-year-old attacking player from champions FC Bayern Munich is unavailable against the four-time Asian champions due to knee problems. The remaining 25 players of the German

World Cup

squad took part in the final training session in Al-Shamal.

"After lunch, the four-time world champions' squad head to Qatar's capital, Doha, where captain Manuel Neuer and company will spend the night before the opening game."

Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane has scored 11 goals in 45 matches for Germany. Sane joined Bayern from Manchester City in 2020 and since then has scored 34 goals including 10 goals this season.

Germany's manager Hansi Flick already has lost Timo Werner to injury and now for replacing Sane must choose between Serge Gnabry, Jonas Hofmann, and Julian Brandt. Mario Gotze, Kai Havertz, and Jamal Musiala all are available.

Germany is in Group E with Japan, Spain, and Costa Rica. They will face Spain in their second game on November 27.
