Monchi claims he has ‘not at all’ thought about leaving Sevilla

Monchi defends his recruitment policy despite Sevilla’s poor start to the season and insists he won’t leave Sevilla

Sevilla’s famous sporting director, Monchi has reiterated his commitment to the club despite the club’s abysmal start to the La Liga season and has defended his transfer policy.

Sevilla has been having a rough time of it recently which has resulted in the sacking of their head coach, Julien Lopetegui, who has since taken over as Wolverhampton’s new head coach. Lopetegui was replaced with the notorious Jorge Sampaoli but things haven’t been that much different since the arrival of the Argentine coach.

Now fans have started to blame the higher ups at

, namely Monchi and the club President Jose Castro. Monchi and Sevilla have built a reputation around smart transfers but the club have been accused of being lax in the summer transfer window, letting key players like Joules Kounde and Diego Carlos go without strengthening up front and bringing in a clinical striker.

“This club has grown because there has never been a single doctrine, each manager has had a criterion and put that on the table. I am a complicated guy in my day to day life because I have a difficult temper. I argued with the president and the vice president just as much when we won the Europa League in Cologne or the points record was broken with Lopetegui.” Monchi told the reporters.

“Have I thought about leaving? Not at all. You know me well and to be hide now or think about it would be cowardly.”

The Sporting director was also self-aware, accepting criticism for his recent decisions: “I have earned the criticism that there is of me. If people are not happy with what they are seeing, I accept the criticism with integrity, with strength and in the only way that I understand, which is to improve what we are doing.”
