Villarreal's president thanks Unai Emery for his "professionalism"

Emery left the Spanish club to replace Gerrard at the 15th-placed Aston Villa claiming the offer was "too good to turn down". However, Villarreal's president thanks Emery for fulfilling his contract.

Unai Emery has a difficult task to improve Aston Villa's results while his former club will be on hunt for a new manager.

Despite leaving Villarreal days before the World Cup, the club's President, Fernando Roig was eager to thank the former manager for his accomplishments with the club.

He told AS:

“The termination of Unai’s contract has been carried out by him. He has fulfilled his contract and therefore we thank him for his effort, his professionalism and his work.

"We have had a great relationship and for that we thank you for your effort, we understand that you are professional and therefore you have decided to accept another offer.”

The former Sevilla and Arsenal coach will start his new job at Villa Park at the beginning of November after agreeing to leave Villarreal. He won the 2021 Europa League with the Yellow Submarine and advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions League, and now he has replaced Steven Gerrard at Villa. In his last press conference in Spain he announced that Villa's offer was so good that he could not refuse it.
