N’Golo Kante out for four months after hamstring surgery

Chelsea star N'Golo Kante will be out of action for four months due to a hamstring injury and therefore will miss the World Cup.

Chelsea

has confirmed that

N'Golo Kante

has undergone surgery and will be out of action for four months.

The 31-year-old midfielder will miss the 2022 World Cup for France. He was part of the France squad that won the 2018 World Cup. France will start their World Cup campaign against Australia on November 21.

An official statement from Chelsea read:

"N’Golo Kante has undergone an operation on his hamstring injury.

"The midfielder visited a specialist with the club’s medical department to explore the options for his rehabilitation approach and it was mutually agreed for N’Golo to have surgery to repair the damage.

"Following a successful operation, N’Golo is now expected to be sidelined for four months.”

Kante has struggled with injuries this season and last time played against Tottenham in August. Kante’s contract with Chelsea will expire at end of the season and at the moment the Blues have offered him a new contract. Reports suggest that the club due to his fitness record in the last two years will not extend his contract. Kante has played in 262 matches for Chelsea since signing from Leicester City in 2016.

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has other injury problems as Reece James will be out of action for eight weeks due to a knee injury and Wesley Fofana also is unlikely to play before the World Cup.

Chelsea who has won their last five games in all competitions will visit Brentford on Wednesday evening in the Premier League. Chelsea is in fourth place with 19 points after nine matches.
