The draw for the Euro 2024 qualifiers was held on Sunday as England and Italy, who were the finalists of the Euro 2020, have been drawn into the same group. Italy's head coach is excited to face Gareth Southgate's men again.
The draw for
the Euro 2024 qualifierswas held and European teams in 10 groups must face each other to advance to the competition. The Euro 2020 finalists will meet again in group C of the tournament.
Ukraine
, who advanced to the quarter-finals, is also in the group with North Macedonia and Malta.
Besides the final of the Euro 2020,
Italyalso won the latest meetings of the sides in the Nations League last month with a winner from Giacomo Raspadori.
England
and France's poor display in the Nations League put them in pot two for the draw as Italy's boss,
Roberto Mancini
claims he expected to land one of those two giants in the drawing.
Mancini told
Rai Sport
after the draw: "
I was sure we would have one between England and France, but that's okay too.
"It's a group of five, it's doable. But there won't be simple games, they'll all have to be played.
"It will certainly be beautiful with England, with Southgate we know each other and if it continues like this we are pretty good, I don't know if he agrees.
"By now this challenge is a classic and, although we faced each other 20 days ago, it will be nice to meet again."
Meanwhile,
North Macedonia
gained a stunning victory over Italy in the World Cup play-off as the Azzurri missed out on the tournament. Mancini urges the cautious with every opponent. He added:
"It's one of those games that happen every now and then.
“As we saw in Palermo, all matches must be played, even the simplest ones. There will be some emotion... but Ukraine is still a good national team."
