Carvajal finds Getafe penalty claims funny after Madrid's 1-0 victory
Getafe fans claim they should have been awarded a late penalty for Carvajal’s challenge on Dekonam in Real Madrid’s 1-0 away victory on Sunday. However, Carvajal laughs off at the claims.
A 1-0 victory at Getafe sent
Real Madridto the top of the table as Eder Militao's early goal proved to be the only goal in an eventful match. Madrid took an early lead in the 3rd minute as
Eder Militao
headed Luka Modric's corner into the goal. The La Liga champions failed to double their lead through a game they mostly dominated their opposition, with a penalty on Vinicius being ruled out by VAR late in the first half.
However, a late challenge from
Dani Carvajalin the box on Djene Dekonam was close to giving visitors heartbreak. However, referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz didn't find the challenge a foul. With
Getafefans raging on for a late penalty, the Spanish right-back finds the claims funny and claimed that the Getafe striker,
Djene Dekonam
agrees with him.
Carvajal told his post-match interview with
Movistar+:
“He was looking for the slightest contact… After that he laughed! It’s normal, it is the last minute and he has to use his weapons. But the referee had a good view of it.”
Carlo Ancelotti
's side celebrated their first clean sheet of the season as well. Carvajal added:
“When you win by a minimal amount and without conceding, it has more value. We were good defensively, conceding very little to a team that goes for second balls a lot. Ancelotti had asked us to take advantage of the superiority out wide, because they play with five… and then after, not to lose our structure at the back.”
“They look to attract you in because they play with two strikers, but we did not give them any space.”
