France midfielder Boubacar Kamara to miss 2022 World Cup

France midfielder Boubacar Kamara will miss the World Cup due to knee ligament damage.

Aston Villa

manager Steven Gerrard confirmed on Friday that

Boubacar Kamara

has suffered ligament damage and will be out of action until after the World Cup. The

World Cup

is scheduled to take place in Qatar from 20 November to 18 December 2022.

"Boubacar will be missing until after the World Cup, unfortunately, so that is a huge blow,"

Gerrard said at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Leeds United.

"It's not ideal. We have had better days on the injury front.”

Kamara who has played three times for France was called up for the latest round of Nations League matches but he had to withdraw from the squad after suffering a knee injury against Southampton on September 16.

The 22-year-old who mainly plays as a defensive midfielder after his contract with Marseille expired joined Aston Villa on a five-year deal this summer. He scored four goals in 170 matches for Marseille.

Villa already had lost one of their summer signings due to injury. Diego Carlos ruptured his Achilles in his second match and will be out of action until the end of the season.

Villa has just seven points after seven matches in the Premier League this season and Steven Gerrard has been under pressure. Kamara's injury who had played in all seven matches for Villa is a massive blow to the former Liverpool star.
