Xavi reacts to Barcelona's win over Cadiz: "A life is above football"

Barcelona beat Cadiz 4-0 in Saturday's LaLiga clash, but the contest was marred by an incident that unfolded in the stands.

Barcelona

coach Xavi believes "life is above football" after a spectator suffered a heart arrest during a LaLiga match. The visitors were two goals up with nine minutes left at

Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla

when the medical emergency occurred.

Jeremias Ledesma

passed a defibrillator into the stands before the players left. Cadiz said the fan had been stabilized and taken to Puerta del Mar Hospital.

A camera operator fainted and was treated by medical staff. Barca added goals by

Ansu Fati

and

Ousmane Dembele

after a 40-minute delay. Xavi was pleased with his team's positive start but contexted the result.

He told Movistar, "It was eventful." "Others said a fan had a heart attack after falling from the stands. Any misfortune would have ended the game. Human life trumps football. We've played football without misfortune. In the end, humanity emerged. We've all added and hope it helps the person involved."

Barca's win against

Cadiz

was their first in five attempts, dating back to April 2006. Catalonia has won four of its first five LaLiga matches under Xavi, surrendering just once. Barca only conceded fewer goals at this stage of a league season in 2014-15. Xavi on his team's sixth straight win in all competitions: "It's a big triumph on tough terrain. Two seasons passed without a win.

"We made opportunities and won. Three points were needed to stay on top. We need to grasp the last pass better, but I'm satisfied despite playing poorly." Fati, Lewandowski, and Dembele were selected replacements for Tuesday's Champions League match against Bayern Munich.

Xavi stated the forthcoming encounter didn't affect his selection. "Even without Bayern, we'd have played the same eleven. "Our large team played well today. We'll see this every three days this season."
