Nagelsmann defends Salihamidzic's brag about Bayern training quality

The Bayern sporting director made a lot of noises when he told an interview on Thursday: “If you look at the training sessions, it’s great fun to watch. Some training games are better than Bundesliga games.”

While many took

Hasan Salihamdzic

's words as a provocative remark towards

Bayern’s

Bundesliga rivals,

Julian Nagelsmann

insists the Bosnian sporting director did not mean to offend the Bundesliga rivals.

The

German

coach told a press conference ahead of their Saturday Bundesliga game against

Union Berlin

:

“We don’t want to offend any Bundesliga club. I think ‘Brazzo’ [Salihamidzic] didn’t want to talk about the quality of the Bundesliga as much as he wanted to emphasize that we have a good team spirit on the pitch.

“They cheer each other on during training and it’s always a good vibe. But in training you can play from the soul because there is a different pressure. Only the results count in the Bundesliga. Brazzo just said that we train well.”

After a perfect start of the season in their three opening Bundesliga matches, the Bavarians dropped points for the first time this season in their 1-1 draw with

Borussia Monchengladbach

last weekend. Nagelsmann believes their Saturday game is a perfect test for their Wednesday Champions League opener against

Inter

as two sides have a lot in common.

The German added:

“They [Union Berlin] have developed well, playing direct football to their two strikers. It is a great stadium with amazing fans. We’re going to try our best to compete. It is challenging to play there, but doable.

“Inter and Union are similar in some respects, especially with their two strikers. It won’t be a bad scouting game for Inter.”

While Mathys Tel and Bouna Sarr are sidelined due to injury, Nagelsmann hopes to have

Leon Goretzka

fit as soon as possible. He added:

“I hope that he stays healthy and that we manage his stress in a healthy way.”
