Manchester United: Yann Sommer and Asmir Begovic in the sights

Manchester United is looking to add another goalkeeper to their team and is considering Yann Sommer, Asmir Begovic, and others.

Lee Grant decided to retire at the end of last season, and United loaned Dean Henderson to Nottingham Forest so that he could play for the first team. But now Tom Heaton is the only backup for

David de Gea

, the first choice for a goalkeeper.

Last Friday, 90min said that Alex McCarthy, the goalkeeper for

Southampton

who has lost his job this season, is also a possible option. The club is also looking at Sommer and Begovic as they consider several candidates.

Sommer, who is 33, has played at the highest level for a long time. He has played in the Champions League for both Basel and Borussia Monchengladbach, facing teams like

Manchester United

, Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona,

Real Madrid

, Bayern Munich, and Juventus.

He has also played for his country in two World Cups and two European Championships.

Begovic

, who just turned 35, is a well-known goalkeeper in the Premier League. He made his debut for Portsmouth in 2009 and has since played for Stoke, Chelsea, Bournemouth, and Everton.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international last played an entire season in the Premier League with Bournemouth in 2017–18. Before he joined Everton in 2021, he played for Qarabag in Azerbaijan and AC Milan on short-term loans. United manager Erik ten Hag wants to add five more players to the field before the transfer window closes at the beginning of September, which is less than two weeks away.

The Dutchman isn't happy that the current team has enough players, so he wants to bring in two more midfielders (like Frenkie de Jong), a striker, a winger, and a right-back. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Crystal Palace have also discussed a possible deal to bring him back.
