Diego Carlos' injury ruins the 2-1 victory over Everton for Gerrard

The 29-year-old, who joined the Villa from Sevilla on a reported £26m, suffered an injury in his second Premier League game as he was forced to be replaced by Calum Chambers.

Goals from Danny Ings and Emi Buendia secured a 2-1 victory over Everton for

Aston Villa

in their second game-week of the Premier League as Lucas Digne's own goal narrowed their victory in the final minutes of the game.

However, Aston Villa's boss

Steven Gerrard

remains worried about his side's Brazilian Centre-back. He told his post-match interview:

"I'm extremely worried about it. It does not look good right now. He needs a scan. The medical staff are very worried.

"It's tarnished how I feel. Let's not say [it's a huge blow]. I'm worried about it. It's round by the ankle/Achilles area."

Asked whether Villa would dip into the transfer market amid the injury, the Villa boss added:

"We will have to wait and see the outcome of his injury

."

After Boubacar Kamara and Philippe Coutinho,

Diego Carlos

became the Premier League club’s third signing of the summer arriving from

Sevilla

for a reported £26m fee. The 29-year-old featured in 136 matches for Sevilla since joining from

Nantes

in 2019, winning the Europa League in 2020 with the club. Carlos was also part of his national team that won gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Villa will face

Crystal Palace

at Selhurst Park next week, then take on West Ham and Arsenal before the summer transfer window closes.
