Sampdoria accept Brentford's £16m bid for Mikkel Damsgaard

Sampdoria has accepted Brentford's offer of £16.7 million for Danish midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard, bringing the Bees closer to finding a replacement for Christian Eriksen.

The Bees are now talking about personal terms with the 22-year-old midfielder and hope to give him a medical in the next few days.

Christian Eriksen

went to

Manchester United

this summer, so Brentford is looking for a new attacking midfielder.

Mikkel Damsgaard

is the player who filled Eriksen's role for Denmark at Euro 2020 after Eriksen had a heart attack.

During

Denmark

's run to the semi-finals, he scored twice, including against

England

at Wembley. After that, he was linked with a move to the Premier League. Damsgaard stayed in Serie A in the end, but he only played 11 games last season because of an injury that kept him out of 27 games from October to April. Brentford wants to find out what went wrong with his health last season.

The west Londoners made their first offer for Damsgaard a week before their first game of the season on Sunday against Leicester City. Before Brentford's bid was accepted, other Premier League clubs were interested in Damsgaard.
