Suarez backs countryman Nunez to thrive at Liverpool

Darwin Nunez is on the verge of making a move to the Reds as Jurgen Klopp is keen on adding a fresh face, with ex-Liverpool striker Luis Suarez suggesting his countryman to impress.

The Reds have confirmed that they have penned a contract with the 22-year-old for a “long term contract” from

Benfica

. His deal is worth £64million (€75m), and it also has £21.4m in add-ons.

The Uruguayan joins the club after meeting the back of the net 48 times in 85 matches for Benfica.

The striker met the target for Benfica in the Champions League games against Liverpool and has also impressed at international level.

Suarez played for the Liverpool before making a move to Barcelona in 2014, where his goals continued to flow as he and Lionel Messi teamed up.

He then joined Atletico Madrid, but he left the club last season, with the 35-year-old looking for taking up a new challenge.

Answering a message on Instagram from Nunez showing the forward in Liverpool, Suarez said: "I was the first one too! But I hope you are the first in GOALS."

Suarez found the target 82 times for Liverpool, who want Nunez to thrive.

Liverpool new player Nunez answered Suarez by saying: "It is an honour for me to follow in your footsteps! I hope I can perform like you did in Liverpool!
