Sevilla CEO Castro backs Lopetegui: "We believe in him without doubt"

Jose Castro, the chairman of Sevilla, has spoken about Julen Lopetegui's future with the club.

Even after the Andalusian club's dismal

LaLiga

finish and breakdown in European competition, he stated that they would support the Basque.

“The team did not play well in the final part of LaLiga, we all saw it,” Castro said in comments carried by

Marca

.

“I will not be the one to give you tomorrow’s headline, but we believe in Lopetegui, we believe in Lopetegui, we believe in Lopetegui – three times so there are no doubts.

“The team had moments, like in December, when we were fighting for LaLiga with [Real] Madrid. We were right there. And not only did we not sell Diego Carlos but we brought in [Anthony] Martial and Tecatico.

“Lopetegui is the coach of Sevilla. He has achieved important goals and we believe in him to lead us to glory again.”

For the first time in the club's modern history, Lopetegui took over at the Sanchez-Pizjuan in the summer of 2019 and has guided

Sevilla

to three consecutive top-four finishes.

In his debut season, he also took them to the Europa League.

However, much of the football has been unimpressive, particularly last season, and his failure to win the Champions League or the Europa League in the previous two seasons is unquestionably a blemish on his record.

This summer will be a blast.

Diego Carlos has already left Sevilla for Aston Villa, and more exits are expected.

Monchi, the sporting director, will have to perform extensive surgery on Lopetegui's team.
