Carvajal: “It’s a shame that the final could be tainted”

Dani Carvajal was upset that things happened outside of the Stade de France that took away from the Champions League final.

Real Madrid

's

Dani Carvajal

was worried that the "chaos" caused by the crowd at the Stade de France could "taint" Los Blancos' Champions League final.

Before Saturday's final, in which Madrid won 1-0 and took home their

14th European Cup

, there were two delays because of crowds. At first, UEFA said the delays were for "security reasons."

Liverpool

fans said that the police were too harsh outside the stadium. They thought that tear gas or pepper spray had been used on fans. A number of British-based journalists said that they saw French authorities outside the stadium be poorly organized and act in an unprofessional way.

The Premier League club then asked for an official investigation, while UEFA said the delays were caused by fans trying to get in with "fake tickets." Since then, UEFA has asked for an independent investigation into what happened in

Paris

. Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has asked for an apology and guarantees that the French government will help with the investigation.

Carvajal's family was at the final, and the Spain player talked about how bad things were outside the stadium as he called for change. Carvajal said Tuesday at a press conference before Spain's Nations League game with

Portugal

that there was a lot of chaos.

"Our closest family members, like my parents, my wife, and my son, had to be left outside the stadium because we couldn't be sure of their safety inside. It's too bad that something outside of the final could make it a little less fair.

"It needs to be taken into account and fixed before the next event at that stadium. It needs to get better because some people had to go through a lot. Whether you won or lost, it should have been a dream day, but some people couldn't enjoy it."
