Weah: Milan is a part of my family history and I want to play for them

While in AC Milan, George Weah won the Ballon d'Or, and now his son Timothy aspires to represent the Rossoneri shirt as well.

Lille striker Timothy Weah wants to play for Milan in the future since it is a "family history" for him.

George Weah

, Weah's father and the president of Liberia

, played for Milan for five seasons in the 1990s, claiming two

Serie A

championships and becoming the first – and still only – African footballer to receive the Ballon d'Or.

The 21-year-old would want to follow in his father's footsteps and play for the Rossoneri, but he believes his main focus is on excelling for

Ligue 1

winners Lille.

"Of course I am focused on Lille, but it has always been my ambition to one day play in a great league like Serie A and, in particular, for a big club like Milan, which is part of my family history after all," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport's Sportweek.

"[My dad] never talks about it openly, but when I was a child, there was the idea of playing for the Rossoneri's youth teams. Things went differently, but maybe I'll arrive at Milan anyway.

"Things go so fast in football, and you never know."

Since joining Lille from PSG – another of his father's former teams – in June 2019, the USMNT player has only netted five goals in 64 outings across all tournaments.

Despite having made 19 appearances and starting 10 matches in Ligue 1, Weah has yet to score in the league. He's credited with three assists, but just three shots on goal.

Jonathan Bamba, his Lille teammate, is the only striker who has made more Ligue 1 starts (18) without scoring in 2021-22.
