McTominay secures the victory for the Red Devils against Aston Villa

Manchester United defats Aston Villa and goes to the next round of the FA Cup.

Manchester United

faced

Aston Villa

in the third round of the

FA Cup

at Old Trafford and a situation that

Ralf Rangnick

has been under so much pressure because of his team’s situation in the Premier League table they didn’t seem to be the better side from the beginning of the game, but

Scott McTominay's

early goal gave the home side a chance to control the game.

It was McTominay’s second goal this season, and if Aston Villa’s two goals weren’t disallowed, it wouldn't be enough for the Red Devils, but

Steven Gerrard’s

side failed to level the game although

Ollie Watkins

and

Danny Ings

found the net in the second half.

McTominay headed Fred’s cross in, and Emiliano Martínez failed to save the ball to give the German manager something to defend himself after their defeat against

Wolves

.

The visitors had many chances to change the result, but

De Gea’s

impressive performance and some good reactions from him even when the defenders weren’t at their best kept the one-goal lead alive for the home side until the end of the game, forcing Steven Gerrard and his men out of the competition.

This victory may help the Red Devils regain their confidence and make the fans happy for the time, but Rangnick knows that these kinds of results won’t be trustable in the long term.
