Man Utd to sign a right-back in January

The Red Devils desperately need to strengthen their fullbacks.

Manchester United

are set to sign a defender to bolster their right-back in January.

In the summer, United tried to sign a defensive midfielder and a right-back, but they signed Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo and failed to sign any fullback. Kieran Trippier was a defender that the Red Devils worked hard to sign in the summer, but despite his interest in Old Trafford, Atletico Madrid opposed the transfer and he eventually stayed at Madrid. Atletico were not satisfied with a lower amount than his € 40 million release clause.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has not been able to do well so far, so Solskjaer is considering a number of options to replace him. Rangers captain James Tavernier was one of the Red Devils' options this summer, but United's other option is also from Steven Gerrard's team. Young Rangers defender Nathan Patterson, who has attracted a lot of attention with his good performance.

Everton are also monitoring Patterson and Manchester United will have to compete with the Toffees for the transfer. Max Aarons is another option that has caught the attention of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but Manchester City are also hoping to transfer him and will try to attract him.
