Andreas Pereira joins Flamengo with a loan deal

Manchester United’s midfielder Andreas Pereira signs a loan contract with Flamengo.

Manchester United

has officially confirmed that they are sending

Andreas Pereira

to

Flamengo

on a loan deal for this season after his successful loan spell at Lazio.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder spent the last season in Serie A, playing for Lazio on loan, but at the end of the season, the club refused to sign the player permanently with a contract worth £21 million ($29m), so he returned to Manchester United, and after spending the preseason with the Red Devils he was not included in the team’s friendly match against Burnley on Tuesday, because the club was planning on sending him away on loan.

Flamengo’s vice-president of football, Marcos Braz, talked about the club’s interest in signing the player last week, claiming that since Pereira is coming from a big club, he can help them to improve.

“We have until the 28th. He's a player from a big club, one of the biggest in Europe, and we're trying to see if we can achieve success with this deal,”

Braz told

TNT Sports.

“The negotiations are going on, there's always some problem, there's always some point where there's a bigger jam, especially with a player of this level. We are happy to be in the hunt to get this player.”

Manchester United has also released a statement explaining the player's situation, insisting that the club has tried to make the best decision for the player.

In a statement, Manchester United added:

"With so much competition for places at Old Trafford, particularly in the forward positions, the decision was taken for Andreas to join Flamengo this season."
