Danny Ings might help Liverpool sign Watkins from Aston Villa

The 29-year-old former England international has agreed a three-year contract with Aston Villa and joins fellow summer recruits Bailey, Emi Buendia, and Ashley Young at Villa Park for a reported €35.20m fee.

The move was confirmed yesterday

Liverpool Echo

suggests that Danny Ings' surprise switch to Aston Villa this week could help Jurgen Klopp secure a move for Ollie Watkins, with Villa now boasting an array of attacking options.

With Watkins, Bertrand Traore, Anwar El Ghazi, Trezeguet, and Wesley already on the books, Villa’s attacking options are more than they need even with the departure of Jack Grealish.

Watkins was the star of the match when Aston Villa thrashed Liverpool 7-2 last season.

"They are good, they are really good. Good set-up, made some good signings, (like) Watkins," Klopp said when reflecting on the striker’s Villa Park hat-trick against his side ahead of their Anfield return fixture in April.

"In my memory a lot of players scored a hat-trick that night. It felt like everybody scored a hat-trick. But I think it was a very good moment for Aston Villa in general.

"As a player, you need these kind of moments. Ollie is a really, really talented striker."

Boasting a number of attributes that impress Klopp, it is no surprise to see Liverpool monitoring Watkins’ progress at Villa and be linked with a potential move.
