Croatia vanquished Scotland 3-1 in Euro 2020’s last Group D fixture
Croatia defeated Scotland 3-1 in Group D’s third fixture for Euro 2020, where Scotland managed to end their goal drought, but were forced to exit the tournament.
During the last two fixtures of Group D for Euro 2020,
Croatiawere defeated 1-0 at the hands of England and drew the second clash 1-1 against the Czech Republic.
Scotland, on the other hand, suffered a 2-0 loss to the Czech Republic and were held to a goalless draw when facing England. Both parties have earned only one point from their last games and tonight’s was a determining battle.
During the first half, Scotland took the lead 17 minutes into the game courtesy of
Nikola Vlasic
’s strike. The Croatia international danced through Scotland’s McTominay, McGregor and Hanley’s pressure and met the back of the net from 10 yards.
However, Scotland scored their first goal of the tournament through
Callum McGregor
and leveled the game before half-time, which set up for a thrilling second half.
Croatia dominated most of the game and tried to bounce back from the equalizer and take the lead again.
Luka Modric
produced an outrageous finish from 20 yards, curling the ball into the net and helping his side lead once more.
Ivan Perisic
went on to secure his side’s victory with a 77th minute goal, which was a torn for Scotland as they are out of Euro 2020, sitting fourth on the table. Croatia, however, qualified for the next round with four points.
On the other side of Group D, England won the clash against the Czech Republic 1-0 and ended the group stage sitting top of the table.
