Begbies claims new party wants to buy League One team

Wigan Athletic's administrator, Begbies has said a new party has shown interest in purchasing the Sky Bet League One team.

Wigan

have been in administration since July when they lost 12 points and they relegated from the Championship, while the 2013 FA Cup winners currently stand at the second bottom in League One.

The Latics couldn't help themselves after three 5-0 losses in their last six home matches. Begbies claimed that another bidder has now given proof of funds.

The last purchase proposal fell through when the Spanish bidder notably reduced its offer, but discussions were made with more than 30 interested parties since January.

There were 11 active interested parties, 2 who had proof of funds and two others who made acceptable offers but without the financial power.

An official update was released on the team's website on Friday:

"The sale of the club is still progressing with a number of interested parties at various stages of the process.

"One new party has joined the process and another party has provided us with proof of funds. We await feedback from the EFL in relation to those parties that have made submissions.

"In the meantime, we continue to liaise with interested parties, the EFL and the supporters club and we continue to remain optimistic of a successful outcome. A further update will be provided by next Friday."
