Rojo signs a permanent deal with Boca Juniors

The 30-year-old defender has come back to his homeland after departing Manchester United.

The Argentina international

Marcos Rojo

has signed a permanent deal with

Boca Juniors

from

Manchester United

. The Argentine defender was tested medically on Monday before putting pen to paper, ending his seven-year time at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils pronounced Rojo’s move on their website, saying: "

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has completed his transfer to Boca Juniors, for an undisclosed fee.

"The 30-year-old will return to his homeland on a permanent basis, after agreeing terms with the reigning Argentinian champions.

"Everyone at the club would like to wish him all the best for the future."

Rojo has spent the second half of the last season with

Estudiantes

on a loan deal, where he initially started his playing career in 2008. The Argentina international joined Manchester United in 2014, with a €20 million (£18m/$24m) price tag, and during those years, the 30-year-old made 122 appearances and met the target twice. This season, however, he failed to find his way into

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

’s line up, leaving without having featured in even a single match.

Rojo will now have to prove his potential to Boca and help them keep their Superliga Argentina title. Should he pull off an impressive display under Miguel Angel Russo, Rojo will have a better chance of turning out for his country when the summer’s Copa America starts.

United, on the other hand, will go into battle with

Southampton

in the

Premier League

, with Solskjaer’s side pushing to put an end to a run of two matches without a victory after losing to

Sheffield United

and drawing against

Arsenal

.
