Football is a sport which requires great stamina, and stamina is highly affected by age. Children start playing football at a very young age, and depending on their competence, get to make their debut for a senior team at different ages. Some play their first match at the age of 16, while the others have to wait until their mid-twenties to make their debuts.

Throughout the history, there have been a number of "wonder kids" who were given the chance of playing senior football at a very young age. Some of them continued to stay in the top-flight football, while some others faded away gradually.

The "Golden Boy" award is one of the most prestigious individual prizes in European football. The award was established by Italian sports newspaper Tuttosport in 2003 and voted for by journalists and the public. It is presented to the player under the age of 21 adjudged to have had the most impressive calendar year.

Previous winners include

Lionel Messi

, Wayne Rooney, Sergio Aguero, and Kylian Mbappe. Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt scooped the award in 2018. Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix was named the 2019 Golden Boy after a sensational year at Benfica and the Wanda Metropolitano.

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland was named the winner of the 2020 Golden Boy award. Haaland beat off competition from Barcelona forward

Ansu Fati
