Villa announces £35m signing of Arsenal target Buendia
Arsenal has long been negotiating over a deal for Emi Buendia with Norwich for their Argentine star, Emi Buendia, as they failed to make Odegaard’s stay at the club permanent.
Another twist in
Arsenal
summer transfer plans is that their long-time playmaker favorite,
Emi Buendia
, has officially joined
Aston Villa
for a
Norwich
club-record fee of £35 million ($50m) plus add-ons.
Joining
Arsenal
on loan in January, Martin Odegaard quickly established himself as a key player in
Mikel Arteta's
plans. However, Madrid’s £51.6m price tag put the 22-year-old out of the reach of Arsenal. Having keen to add a creative player for
Odegaard’s
role in
Mikel Arteta’s
plans, they turned back to the then-Norwich Argentine star, Buendia.
However,
Aston Villa
has officially confirmed the signing of the player, who led Norwich back to Premier League, in a statement.
The statement on
Aston Villa’s
official website reads:
"Aston Villa and Norwich City have reached an agreement for the transfer of Emiliano Buendia,"
"As Emiliano is currently in the Argentina national team’s biosecure bubble, preparing for a World Cup qualifying match with Colombia on Tuesday evening, he will undergo a medical and complete the transfer after the game."
The
Canaries
themselves published their own statement, adding
: "Final confirmation of the transfer will follow upon completion of the player’s medical."
Having been relegated from the Premier League in the 2019/20 season, the 24-year-old creative
Argentine
star was essential in their bouncing back by gaining automatic Championship promotion.
Joining
Norwich
from
Getafe
in 2018 for a €1.50m fee,
Buendia
has registered 15 and 17 assists in his 39 Championship appearances this season.
