Papu Gomez Quote

One of the most amusing parts of SportMob's article on top facts about Papu Gomez is a look back at his most interesting and controversial quotes about himself and other players.

On his bitter departure from Atalanta:

It’s hard for me to watch an

Atalanta

game, It hurts me to see my former teammates. I’m happy for them because they’re doing very well, but I can’t. That’s why I say that I’m sad. I hope that, with time, I can watch them more.

It's a mixture of feelings, after so many years in this city, I'm sad, and also happy. Sometimes things happen and go a certain way, but I would do it all again because we wrote the history of this club. I leave Atalanta at the top in Europe. The fans? I'll miss them a lot, Bergamo is in my heart. We will surely see each other again soon.

On his decision to join Sevilla:

I had great offers from MLS and Saudi Arabia, for a lot of money. There were people who wanted me to see me go there and to disappear, but Sevilla were a priority for me and I’m happy to have ended up here. I loved my time at Atalanta but I am excited to start this new chapter.

(From his interview with Sky Sports)

On his chat with

Lionel Messi

after Sevilla's game against Barcelona in 2021:

We spoke about life. He asked me what happened in Atalanta. It was strange for him to find me in Spain. We didn’t discuss anything out of the ordinary. He asked me how I felt here. We also spoke with Lucas about his injury. All of us love Leo, he is Argentina’s captain and we only want the best for him. There was no conversation about his future.

On not being called up to Argentina National team:

In a way, it’s normal that I’ve never been called. If we think about it, DYBALA is a substitute with Argentina and he’s the best player at Juventus. We have great players everywhere. DI MARIA, MESSI, HIGUAIN, AGUERO… Obviously there isn’t a place for everyone.(from Gomez's interview with mundoalbiceleste)
