Most goal celebrations include the goalscorers’ strong emotions, with either a scream and run to the sidelines or a fist-pump. A footballer scores a goal and all fans cheer their names, which is a really special feeling. Anyway, it is always exciting to see some special celebrations once in a while.

Some footballers tend to explain their signature goal celebrations, while some others refuse to do that.

Here’s a look back at top goal celebrations from recent female soccer matches especially the FIFA women’s World Cup 2019.

It should be mentioned that there is no ranking in the following list of top female footballers’ goal celebrations.

Megan Rapinoe

, born July 5, 1985, is an American professional soccer player who plays as a winger and captains OL Reign in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and the United States national team.

Rapinoe was named The Best FIFA Women's Player in 2019. Winner of the Ballon d'Or Féminin struck an epic pose after scoring against France in the Women's World Cup.

Rapinoe scored the only two goals against France in the Women's World Cup quarter-final match, and her glorious goal celebration was hailed as an "iconic" moment in soccer and all sports.

After forward Alex Morgan was taken down with a tough tackle just outside the box, the Americans were awarded a free kick, which Megan Rapinoe struck with confidence into the back of the net.

While the goal itself was beautiful, it was Rapinoe's celebration that captured the attention of fans on Twitter. A triumphant Rapinoe with her arms outstretched was the pose she struck after scoring both goals, which quickly set Twitter ablaze.

It's arguably the most viral moment of the US star forward's historic World Cup run and of course, the internet immediately adopted the photo as a meme and symbol of patriotism for an American athlete and activist in her prime.

President Donald Trump along with some critics viewed her celebration and performance throughout the Women's World Cup as arrogant and premature.

"She should WIN before she TALKS!" Trump tweeted after Rapinoe said she was not going to the White House if the team wins the finals and is invited.

Rapinoe, who has called herself a ‘walking protest,’ doesn't shy from making controversial statements. Before her comments about Trump went viral, she made waves in 2016 when she knelt during the national anthem before a Seattle Reign game as a show of solidarity with Colin Kaepernick, the former NFL quarterback whose protests against racial injustice and police brutality drew criticism.

Rapinoe came out as gay during the 2011 Women's World Cup, and gave the best performance of her career during Pride month.

"You can't win a championship without gays on your team," she told reporters. Many fans believe that Rapinoe has cemented her status as an American hero.

Rapinoe herself has taken criticism for goal celebrations, but she offered a simple explanation in a long-winded answer that addressed some of the underlying issues.

All in all, it was evident that the gesture was not a mere celebration. It seemed to say, ‘this is all of me. Take me for the bold, complex person that I am: a social activist; champion of equal pay; national anthem protester; presidential critic; lavender-haired soccer star of ruthless and creative purpose.’

Alex Morgan

, born July 2, 1989, is an American soccer player for the Orlando Pride of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and the United States women's national soccer team. Since 2018, she has co-captained the national team with Carli Lloyd and Megan Rapinoe.

Morgan scored an amazing goal in the 31st minute of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup match between England and the USWNT.

Morgan's goal gave the United States a 2-1 lead, which proved to be the eventual game-winner. While the goal itself was beautiful, so was her ensuing celebration,

an exaggerated sip of tea.

However, Morgan was accused of “disrespecting” England when she made the tea-sipping gesture in their World Cup semi-final since tea is considered to be the traditional British beverage, but she denied it was meant to offend her opponents.

Morgan claimed it was meant as a tribute to her favorite English actress, Game of Thrones star, Sophie Turner, who made the tea-sipping routine a social media trademark when discussing the hit television series.

"I feel like this team has had so much thrown at them and us. I feel like we didn't take an easy route through this tournament and 'that's the tea'," she said later.

Former US presidential candidate and ex-first lady Hillary Clinton was among those offering congratulations to the winners. "Congrats to the #USWNT for earning that tea," she tweeted.

After being accused of disrespecting the England team with her celebration, Morgan complained about double standards in football.

“You see men celebrating all around the world in big tournaments, you know, grabbing their sacks or whatever it is,” she continued. “And when I look at sipping a cup of tea, I’m a little taken aback, and you have to laugh about it to see all the criticism. So, I’m a little disappointed in that.”

“It wasn’t a hit to England in any way,” she continued.

Sam Kerr

Samantha May "Sam" Kerr, born 10 September 1993, is an Australian soccer player who plays for Chelsea in the English FA Women's Super League. She is the current captain of the Australia women's national soccer team (the Matildas).

Kerr is the all-time leading scorer in both the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) in the United States, and the Australian W-League.

The Australian football player's goals are amazing and so are her celebrations and her backflips are just as impressive as the goals that precede them.

When Kerr was a 9-year-old living in Perth, Australia, she taught herself how to do a round off backflip, and it became her signature celebratory move. "It is kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing," she said to reporters.

"When it is a big match, or a big goal, it seems to happen. People always ask me when I’m going to do it and I never know. It is just pure emotion."

In addition to her acrobatic prowess, Kerr is known for her skilled scoring. In 2017, she set the NWSL world record for the most goals scored in a game.

"I don’t think there’s any other player in the world right now who’s as sophisticated as she is with her movement off the ball," Rory Dames, her club coach at the Chicago Red Stars, told reporters.

Having picked up the Golden Boot in each of the past three seasons in both divisions, Kerr is now known as a goal machine and the all-time top scorer in the American National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and Australian W-League.

She's scored 38 goals for her country, Australia, and managed to bag five goals in last summer's World Cup despite only playing four games.

Kerr is known for her unique back-flip celebration. She usually does an acrobatic front-flip first and then follows it up with a back-flip.

Ellen White

Ellen Toni White is an English international footballer who plays as a forward for Manchester City and the England national team.

White scored England’s decisive second goal in the 2-1 victory over Scotland on Sunday at the Women’s World Cup.

The Manchester City ace’s unusual manner of marking goals has almost been as much discussed as her goals. White lifted her fingers up to her eyes to make goggles once the ball hit the net.

White has revealed that her ‘goggles’ celebration was a nod to her love of the Bundesliga and Cologne striker Anthony Modeste.

If White's goal celebration for England at the FIFA Women's World Cup looked familiar to Bundesliga followers it was no coincidence: the Lionesses star is a big fan of the German top flight and Cologne striker Anthony Modeste.

With England 1-0 up in their opening fixture against Scotland in Nice, White put the ball in the net in the 23rd minute and wheeled away in celebration, putting her hands over her eyes in a 'spectacles' gesture made famous by Modeste.

Although that particular effort was ruled out for offside by VAR, she was able to give the celebration another airing just before half-time with a cool finish from inside the box to put her side 2-0 up in a match they would eventually win 2-1.

Asked about the unusual pose at the final whistle, the 30-year-old had a simple explanation. "I like watching the Bundesliga," she told reporters. "I support Cologne and striker Anthony Modeste, that’s his celebration. My husband was like, why don’t you do that? But I’ve started something I can’t really stop now!"

The White household's affection for the Billy Goats does not end there, however. They are regular visitors to Germany and traveled to Cologne in May to celebrate with the team after they secured promotion back to the Bundesliga, paying the players a visit at training and even securing a prized selfie with Modeste himself.

"We just love German football and went over there on a break and loved the atmosphere and the football," added White.

Carli Lloyd

Carli Anne Hollins, born July 16, 1982, known as Carli Lloyd, is an American soccer player for the Sky Blue FC in the National Women's Soccer League and the United States women's national soccer team as a midfielder.

After leaping, pumping a fist, and hugging teammate Lindsey Horan, Lloyd raised both hands chin high and made four tiny pitter-patter claps, the type seen more frequently at Pebble Beach.

Carli Lloyd poked fun at the criticism by politely, and somewhat sarcastically, clapping towards the sideline alongside teammate Lindsey Horan after scoring in the 11th minute of the American's 3-0 win over Chile in Group F play.

Criticized for both running up the score against Thailand and celebrating each of its record-breaking 13 goals, the Americans had dismissed the scrutiny entering their Group F match with Chile.

When asked about his goal celebration, she said, “I can't take credit for it. I'm not sure if Lindsey is taking credit for it.'

'She had told me if we score, that's what we're going to do, so I just went along with it after I did my little celebration. But it was fun. I think it made a statement on the sideline there. It was cool.”

Marta

Marta Vieira da Silva, born 19 February 1986 is a Brazilian footballer who plays for the Orlando Pride in the National Women's Soccer League and the Brazil national team as a forward.

With 17 goals, she holds the record for most goals scored at FIFA World Cup tournaments. Moreover, she is the first footballer of either gender to score at five World Cup editions, a feat matched by Christine Sinclair in 2019.

Marta kissed her own foot after scoring Brazil's first goal against Italy, which made her the all-time leading goal scorer in World Cup history.

Ajara Nchout

Ajara Nchout Njoya, born 12 January 1993, is a Cameroonian footballer who plays as a forward for Cameron national team.

She also plays for Norwegian club Valerenga since 2019, having played 2016–17 for Swedish club Sundsvalls DFF and the Cameroon national team. In 2015, she represented the American National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) club Western New York Flash.

Nchout scored the winner in 2-1 win over New Zealand in added time to help Cameroon advance as one of the best third-placed teams.

Nchout’s stunning elimination of New Zealand at the last possible second might have been the most exciting goal of the tournament, and her teary reaction lived up to it.
