Southampton to sign Walcott on a two-year deal
The Saints have been impressed by the forward’s performance during his loan spell at St Mary’s Stadium.
Having been loaned out by
Everton,
Theo Walcott
joined
Southamptonlast summer. The 32-year-old was set to become a free agent at the end of the season as his deal with Everton will be expired in June. However, Walcott has earned a new two-year contract at St Mary’s that will guarantee his stay at the club beyond this summer.
"I'm not sure I can properly express how happy I am about this,"
Walcott wrote on his
Twitter account.
"Southampton is a club that means so much to me, and it has been incredibly special for me to have spent this season back at St Mary's.
"But to now have the opportunity to return for a further two years means such a great deal to me, both personally and professionally."
Wolcott has featured in 21 league matches for
Ralph Hasenhuttl
's side this season, scoring three goals and providing three assists. The English forward started his senior career at Southampton back in 2005, before moving to
Arsenala year later.
The Saints boss praised Walcott for his impact on the team:
"Theo has been a very good influence for us this season.
"He is a very professional player who does things in the right way and has a very positive impact not only on our young players but on the dressing room as a whole."
