"I should have shown more" - Spurs star Son feels responsible for Conte's exit

Tottenham star Son Heung-min admitted he felt responsible for Antonio Conte's losing his job.

Tottenham announced on Sunday that Antonio Conte has left the club by mutual consent following his controversial interview after a 3-3 draw at Southampton.

Conte criticised his players and the club's hierarchy following the match, and reports suggested that the relationship between Conte and the club had broken down in recent weeks.

After South Korea's 2-1 defeat to Uruguay on Tuesday, Son said he felt he should have done more this season to help Conte.

"As a player, I'm very sorry to him,"

Son told reporters.

"He is a world-class manager and we had a great journey together, I thank him a lot. I don't know how other players are thinking about him, but I'm sorry to him.”

Son was last season's joint-top scorer in the Premier League with 23 goals, but he has just scored six goals this season.

He said:

”I should have shown more, but I couldn't. I couldn't help the team and I feel responsible because the coach took responsibility and left the club."

Son who scored twice in Korea's 2-2 draw with Colombia on Friday also added:

"He has great skills and experience as a coach, I'm sure he'll have great success in his future career.”

Spurs will face Everton on April 3 under new interim boss Cristian Stellini.
