Late Gareth Bale heroics secures a draw for Wales

Wales deservedly earns a draw against Gergg Berhalter’s USA with captain Bale coming in clutch late in the game

Another major tournament and another magnificent performance from Wales captain Gareth Bale as they come back from 1-0 down to earn a draw at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium against USA.

The match up between the Group B contestants was a classic tale of the two halves as USA dominated the first half only to be outdone by the Dragons’ all-time leading goal scorer Gareth Bale in the second half.

Timothy Weah put USA ahead in the first half, doing something that his Ballon d’Or-winning father never achieved in the World Cup. USA controlled much of the first half and made the likes of Bale invisible.

However, as the match went on,

Wales

came into their own and Bale who was largely missing for most of the game came alive in the 80th minute when Zimmerman made a bad challenge on the former Real Madrid attacker.

He then converted the penalty himself, equalizing the match for Wales on their first World Cup outing since 1958.

Although

USA

was much more impressive in the first half, Berhalter’s rather inexperienced side failed to capitalize on the threats they made even if they hit the bar once and came very close to doubling their lead.

The result will favor Wales as they’ll play Iran next on Friday and if Iran puts on a performance like the one they did today, the Dragons may have a good chance to win all the three points and make a good case for qualifying to the next stage.
