Newcastle United

have signed the first professional contract of Elliott Anderson, the young star who broke through to the first team under Eddie Howe.

The 19-year-old star, who has played at youth level for England and Scotland, made his Premier League debut as a substitute against

Arsenal

in January 2021. He spent the second half of last season on loan at

Bristol Rovers

, scoring 7 goals and providing 6 assists in 21 games, helping them to promote to the League One. He has been an effective substitute for Howe this season and his absence due to injury was felt well in the 1-1 draw against Bournemouth. The club signed his first professional contract and the English star spoke of his commitment and future to the Magpies.

He said:

"I'm really happy. I love playing for Newcastle United, and committing my future to the club is something I've really wanted to do.

"It was my aim coming back into pre-season to work hard and earn the opportunity to stick around. I have really enjoyed being with the first-team group, so hopefully I can keep improving and contribute to the team."

Howe added:

"We are all delighted with Elliot's development.

"He is a natural talent, but he also has an excellent work ethic and always wants to learn.

"He is just at the start of his journey at this level, but he has a very exciting future ahead, and we are delighted that his journey will continue here."
