Breaking: UEFA officially excludes Russia from Euro 2024 draw

After a meeting in Croatia, UEFA Executive Committee today announced that further sanctions will be aimed at Russia following the invasion of Ukraine as they are excluded from the Euro 2024 qualifying draw.

Last February, FIFA, and UEFA both decided to ban

Russia

and Belarus from their competitions until further notice following Ukraine’s invasion by Russia. UEFA also in May confirmed that Russian clubs can not participate in their continental competitions in the upcoming season.

Now, after a meeting in Hvar, Croatia on Tuesday,

UEFA Executive Committee

approved the procedure for the upcoming

UEFA EURO 2024

qualifying draw. The governing body of European football confirmed Russia will be excluded from the tournament’s qualifying draw in

a statement

that summarized the result of the meeting.

The announcement reads:

“All Russian teams are currently suspended following the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee of 28 February 2022 which has further been confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on 15 July 2022. Russia is therefore not included in the UEFA European Football Championship 2022-24 qualifying draw.”

While

Germany

automatically qualifies for the Euro 2024 as the host, the other 53 participating European teams are seeded according to their performance in the 2022/23

UEFA Nations League

before being drawn into ten groups, seven groups of five teams, and three groups of six teams, with the draw to take place on 9 October at midday in Frankfurt.
