Phillips sustains new injury in England vs Germany

Kalvin Phillips had to depart the field with an injury look during the final minutes of England’s battle against Germany in the Nations League.

Kalvin Phillips

has endured a hard time as he tried to keep full fitness since his remarkable performance for

England

at Euro 2020. He sustained yet another injury in the first 15 minutes of their battle against Germany on Tuesday.

The

Leeds United

midfielder was in the starting XI alongside Declan Rice in the midfield but could not continue after he collided with Nico Schlotterbeck early doors. He received treatment for the knock to his leg and wanted to keep playing but he only managed to continue for a few minutes before he had to be replaced by Jude Bellingham.

He has managed to prove himself as a key player and made his way to the starting lineup in the last few years but his hamstring injury has really affected his season. His new injury is also going to be a blow as the World Cup in Qatar is coming up.

Should

Gareth Southgate

call him up for the World Cup in Qatar, he is definitely going to be a fire starter.

"It's just over a calendar year since he first played for us and his contribution and impact on the team has been huge,"

beamed Southgate when quizzed on Phillips towards the end of last year.

"We are always keen to have our best players available and he's certainly been in that category over the past 12 months. He’s been excellent, the way he has taken to international football, it hasn’t surprised us because what we’d seen with Leeds, even in the Championship, we felt could convert into our team.
