Williams and Onuoha defend the AFCON

The ex-Premier League stars talked about the AFCON and its meaning to the players.

Africa Cup of Nations

will begin on January 9 and will continue until February 6 in Cameroon.

It is one of the world’s biggest competitions as many world-class players are there to represent their countries to gain a continental trophy.

Notwithstanding that, the tournament has been treated as unimportant by some media outlets and some sides even prevented their players from joining their countries.

To support and defend AFCON, many legendary players like

Ashely Williams and Nedum Onuoha

as well as stars Patrick Vieira and Ian Wright talked about the tournament.

Williams said:

“It’s a tournament that came in the middle of the season, I know it’s not ideal but it’s a massive tournament. You know, I think there is a little bit of disrespect towards it.”

Onuoha then added:

“It’s like when players are called up to represent England, when you go to Wembley it feels incredible, all African players feel that for their respective nations.”
