Germany's 4-2 win blows Group F wide open

Portugal won their opening game of the tournament 3-0 against Hungary, and a win over Germany would have secured their place in Euro 2020's last-16 stage. Fernando Santos' side had not lost their last seven games before tonight's game, although they had lost all four of their previous four games against Germany.

Germany gave a proper account of themselves in their opening game at Euro 2020 but still ended up 1-0 losers to France. Mats Hummels' own goal proved the difference and left Joachim Low's men needing a win against Portugal to bolster their hopes of a second-place finish in Group F.

Germany scored the first goal very early in the fifth minute, but it seemed that Gnabry was in a position of offside, and Gosens' goal was not accepted by the VAR.

Germany gradually increased the pressure on the Portuguese goal, but it was Fernando Santos's men who took advantage of the empty space of the German defense and opened the German goal with a quick counter-attack. in the 15th minute the Portuguese captain Cristiano Ronaldo has an open goal as he taps-in from inside the six-yard area with his right foot to open the scoring.

After a few minutes, Germany regained control of the ball and the game and prepared a wide range of attacks. In the 35th minute, Germany finally scored the equalizer. Gosens smashes a volley across the six-yard area, and Dias can only turn into the bottom right corner past his own goalkeeper. With Havertz ready and waiting to tap, Dias had no alternative but to make a challenge and he sends the ball into the back of the net off his own goal.

Germany completed the comeback in the first half. Four minutes after the first goal, Kimmich sent a stray ball to the six-yard area and Raphaël Guerreiro, who wanted to prevent the ball from reaching Gnabry, sent the ball into his own goal.

Germany started the second half very aggressively to increase the difference in the 50th minute. Gosens offers width again as he speeds down the left-hand side to latch onto Muller's pass. The left wing-back slams a low cross across the six-yard area and Havertz can't miss as he tap-ins at the back post.

In the 60th minute, Germany turned Portugal's hopes to ashes and scored the fourth goal. Havertz works out to Kimmich, who sent a cross towards the far post. Gosens evades the attentions of Semedo to head home past Patricio from close range and the Germans lead 4-1.

After the fourth goal, Germany was not very interested in preparing more attacks and it seemed that Joachim Löw's team was thinking about the next game against Hungary. Meanwhile, Portugal increased the pressure and in the 67th minute, their second goal came. Moutinho's deep free-kick from the left flank goes all the way through to Ronaldo, who from the far post hooks back across the goal with his right foot. Diogo Jota makes taps-in from close range to score Portugal's second goal.

Germany's 4-2 win complicated Group F conditions, especially when considering France dropped points against Hungary earlier today. Low's men pass Portugal to step up to second and they face Hungary on Wednesday. Santos' men, who fell to third courtesy of their head-to-head record against today's opponents, next challenge France on the same day.
