In 1982, World Cup's second round, 12 teams were supposed to compete in four groups of three. In the hardest of groups ever, there were Argentina, Brazil, and Italy. In the first match, Diego Maradona and Mario Kempes could not do anything to stop Italy from winning the Argentina. Brazil had one of the strongest line-ups in football history with Zico, Falcao, Eder, Cerezo, and Doctor Socrates. Brazil won Argentina, three to one. So, the winner of the match between Italy and Brazil could go to the knockout phase. 

In one of the most memorable matches in World Cup history, Rossi scored an early goal in the fifth minute. Seven minutes later Socrates scored the equalizer for Brazil. But later in 25th minute of the game Paolo Rossi scored another goal. Brazil's constant attacks could not penetrate Italy's defense wall and goalkeeper Dino Zoff behind them blocked all the Brazilian shots at goal. On 68 minutes, Falcao scored the second equalizer in the game.

 With this result Brazil would have been through on goal difference. But in 74th minute, Paolo Rossi completed his hat trick and finished the game for Brazil. In the semi final, Italy faced Poland. This time Italy won the match with Paolo Rossi's brace and reached the final.
