Belgium’s Doku: “Lukaku missed chances but it’s everyone’s fault”

The Red Devils suffered a shock elimination from Qatar 2022 amid Lukaku's shockingly disappointing performance against Croatia which led to a goalless draw. However, Lukaku's Belgium teammate defends the Inter striker.

Belgium

needed to beat Croatia to progress past the group stages but failed to find the back of the net and was knocked out of the World Cup.

Croatia

finished in second place after Morocco in Group F with five points.

Romelu Lukaku

came on at half-time as he missed a sitter for his country which could have won his country qualification to the next round. However, Doku believes Lukaku wasn’t the reason for the Red Devils’ disadvantage against Croatia.

"Yes, he missed chances but I don't think it was his fault. We all wanted to win, we all knew what had to be done."

Doku told

L'Equipe

. "

He had chances but it's not just him, it's everyone, we all tried to put ourselves in the best positions to score."

Meanwhile, Belgium boss

Roberto Martinez

confirmed his departure after Belgium’s early elimination from the World Cup.
