Scaloni admits Argentina’s loss to Saudi Arabia is “hard to digest”

Despite scoring an early opener via Lionel Messi's penalty, Argentina suffered a comeback in their World Cup opener against Saudi Arabia as they lost the game 2-1. Argentina boss Scaloni calls the game difficult to digest.

Saudi Arabia

came from behind to win 2-1 against Argentina on Tuesday in front of an 88,012 crowd. The result brought

Argentina

's run of 36 games without a defeat to an end .

As a result, Saudi Arabia become the first non-European team to beat Argentina at the

World Cup

since Cameroon in 1990. They also became the first Asian team to beat Argentina in World Cup history.

The Albiceleste told his post-match interview:

"It's difficult to digest.

"In four, five minutes, they scored two goals, two out of two shots on goal.

"But we will have to bounce back from this defeat and prepare for the next two matches. We do not have to analyze more than that.

"It's a sad day, but as we always say: head held high. We have to bounce back."

He added:

"There is nothing we can do. If we had won, we would also be waking up tomorrow thinking about the game tomorrow against Mexico and thinking about different aspects we can improve. This doesn't change our analysis."

With the Argentine side set to meet

Mexico

on Saturday, Scaloni added on his player's condition:

"I've not spoken to them yet, because they are in pain, to be honest.

"They are thinking about how we can turn things around. It's all about winning the next games, and that's what we are trying to do."

"No, we fully respect Saudi Arabia. That wasn't the reason behind this defeat,"

Scaloni said on Suadi Arabia.

"Quite on the contrary, they are a good team, they have technical players, they are very well prepared physically."
