Rangnick cancels Man Utd consultancy role to focus fully on Austria

Ralf Rangnick was supposed to work as a consultant for Manchester United for the next two years, but "by mutual consent," that plan has been scrapped.

It was revealed on Sunday that

Ralf Rangnick

will not be working as a consultant for

Manchester United

. After a disappointing time as interim manager, Rangnick didn't look like he was going to be a part of United's plans.

He was hired as the new coach for

Austria

last month, which made it more likely that he would move on. Now, United has said that Rangnick, who was thought to be a great strategist when he joined the club, will not be a part of their future plans.

It means that

Erik ten Hag

, who was hired from Ajax on a three-year contract, won't be working with the man he replaced. United said, when they told people about the breakup: "We'd like to thank Ralf Rangnick for his work as interim manager over the past six months.

"By mutual agreement, Ralf will now only focus on his new job as manager of the Austrian national team and will not take on a consulting job at Old Trafford. We wish Ralf the best of luck as he moves on to the next step in his career." When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired in November, Rangnick took over as interim manager. At first, the plan was for him to become an advisor at the end of the season.

Under Rangnick, United's often bad games and the team's ability to work together were closely watched. In the 2021-22 season, they were 35 points behind champions

Manchester City

and came in sixth, which was a big disappointment.

Rangnick said he could work for both United and Austria at the same time, but that idea has been shot down. United hasn't won a trophy since 2017, and the last time they won the Premier League was in 2012-13, during Alex Ferguson's last season in charge.
