Ronaldo’s second goal not offside, Rangnick in post-match interview

Manchester United suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal in the Premier League and the club’s interim boss insisted that the Portugal international’s second goal should not have been ruled out as offside.

Arsenal

moved closer to their aim of getting the

Champions League

qualification with their 3-1 victory over

Manchester United

on Saturday. Nuno Tavares scored the opener and goals from Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka sealed the three points for Arsenal.

Cristiano Ronaldo

also met the back of the net for the Red Devils and marked his 100th goal in the Premier League.

Although the second half was not the same thrill factor as the first one, United were awarded a penalty following Tavares’s foul in the area. However, Fernando failed to meet the target.

United tried to push back and the Portugal international netted a brace, only for the referee to call it an offside.

Ralf Rangnick was frustrated with the way the referees handled the game and insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo’s second goal was not an offside.

Ralph Rangnick:

"The second goal of Cristiano was not offside. Their third goal was offside. They checked it but for whatever reason they still gave it."

Rangnick on dressing room mood: “I think the whole group get on reasonable with each other. I'm not daring to say they get on well with each other. I don't see there is an issue in regard to the locker room.”

He was also quizzed whether their hopes for a top-four finish is gone:

“Pretty sure. For me, even before the game, it was not very likely but after today's result it is gone, yes.”

The Gunners grabbed the three points and stretched their gap with United in the sixth place. Rangnick’s side should do everything they can to get a place in the Champions League, while Arsenal are sure to finish in the top four.
