Rangnick: Pogba unlikely to play again but Ronaldo back for Arsenal

Paul Pogba is unlikely to play again this season, according to Ralf Rangnick, raising the possibility that he has played his final game for Manchester United before his contract expires at the end of the season.

Paul Pogba

was forced out in the first half of United's 4-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday, and Rangnick said the France midfielder will be out for at least four weeks.

United's final game of the season is on May 22 at

Crystal Palace

, which means the France international's six-year stay at Old Trafford will come to an end with a whimper. "Paul, it appears from the scan we did, it's highly doubtful he will play till the end of the season," Rangnick said before United's trip to

Arsenal

on Saturday.

"The doctor said it would take at least four weeks for him to recuperate." I don't think he'll be able to play again because the previous game was at the end of May."

Cristiano Ronaldo

is available to return to the team, which is good news for United ahead of their game against Arsenal, which could have enormous implications for both clubs' chances of finishing in the top four.

After his infant baby died, the 37-year-old was placed on vacation, but he returned to training earlier this week and Rangnick indicated he is in contention to play at the Emirates. United are now in sixth place in the Premier League, three points behind Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, despite having played one more game than their top-four rivals.

Rangnick stated of his replacement, "We don't know each other, we haven't met in person yet." "However, given what I've seen of him, both when he was the U23 coach at

Bayern Munich

and now at

Ajax

, I admire his play."

"I am confident that with a full pre-season, the opportunity to construct and mold his own staff, as well as a new team - which we will undoubtedly have - we will witness a different team and an improvement on the pitch."

"I was aware that Erik was one of the candidates who had been interviewed by the board. Obviously, I informed them that I think Erik would be a terrific candidate, based on what I'd seen and heard from folks who'd worked with him."
