Nagelsmann trusts Omar Richards to cover injuries for Bayern

The German giants have to start their pre-season campaign without the presence of their main left-back options.

Ahead of their first pre-season friendly against Koln, Bayern Munich are already hit with injuries. Both

Alphonso Davies

and

Lucas Hernandez

are sidelined with injuries, which leaves

Omar Richards

as the only left-back in the squad.

Richards joined Bayern from Championship side

Reading

this summer. The 23-year-old is expected to make his debut for Bayern in their pre-season friendly against Koln on Saturday. Bayern’s newly appointed coach Julian Nagelsmann says he trusts Richards to fill in for his side’s injured left-backs.

"Omar is an extremely smart young man who is very eager to learn and has already integrated well. He can already speak some German which is impressive,”

Nagelsmann told

Kicker

.

“It’s extremely important that new players are willing to learn.”

Asked about Richards’ performances in training sessions, the former Leipzig boss responded:

“I’m very satisfied with him so far. He’s training well, he has a good technique, is good with the ball and can dribble,”

Bayern will start their 2021-22 Bundesliga campaign with a match against

Monchengladbach

on August 13.
