‘I have decided to leave’ – De Zerbi set to leave Sassuolo this summer

Sassuolo manager Roberto De Zerbi says he has already informed the club board and squad of his decision to leave the Neroverdi at the end of the season.

According to reports in Italy,

Roberto De Zerbi

has decided to part ways with

Sassuolo

at the end of the current campaign and will take charge at

Shakhtar Donetsk

next season.

“Before last week’s game with Genoa, I spoke to the club and the players. I told them I have decided to leave. It’s a decision that really troubled me, I am not happy about it, but I am doing this because I don’t think I can give anything else to this team,”

De Zerbi

told Sky Sport Italia

.

The 41-year-old believes he has nothing more to add to the team and this is the reason he wants to leave the club.

“I feel that I’ve reached the maximum with them after three years. I hope another coach can come in and do even better. I realize that I am something of a strain on the players.

“I will always be grateful to the club, but I am a professional and it’s time to try a different experience. We’ve reached the apex of what we can do here, we are challenging for seventh place and I don’t know what more I can give.

“It’s genuinely sad, because I only started to consider other offers when I came to this conclusion about Sassuolo, because I would never put them in competition with the others.”
