Bielsa's FIFA Coach award nomination is a scandal, says Villas-Boas
Marseille boss believes that Thomas Tuchel deserved to be nominated for the prestigious award more than Leeds’ manager.
Marcelo Bielsa
has been selected in the FIFA’s short-list for this year’s
The Best Manager Award
along with Real Madrid’s Zinedine Zidane, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui, and Bayern Munich’s Champions League-winner Hansi Flick. Bielsa managed to return
Leedsto England’s top tier for the first time since 2004 but Marseille manager
Andre Villas Boas
believes that his achievements are not enough to make him a suitable option for FIFA’s shortlist as there are overlooked coaches with more impressive achievements compared to the Argentinian.
“Bielsa? Bielsa has to win a prestigious trophy,” he told the media on Friday. “But he’s not among the best five coaches in the world in 2020. It’s a scandal. He won the Championship!”
When asked about his opinion on the coaches who deserved to be on the list, Villas Boas responded:
“That Tuchel’s not in the top five coach is a scandal,
“FIFA are sleeping… Tuchel won four trophies and then got to the final of the Champions League.”
Villas-Boas is spending a rough season at Marseille as his team has been criticized for their poor performances in the Champions League. The French club has been defeated in all of their 4 European matches this season and are yet to score in their Champions League fixtures.
