Thomas Partey Early Life

Thomas was born in Odumase Krobo (Ghana) on 13 June 1993 and grew up playing for teams in his hometown like most Ghanaian kids. He is the eldest of eight children in his family and loves hanging out with his football-loving father, in fact, his father manages and coaches a team in Odumase Krobo where Thomas started playing until he was nine years old. While playing for that team, his father gave him the nickname "Senegal" because it reminded him of a friend with the same name.

Having played for his father's team, Thomas went on to develop as a talented football player until he got the chance to make a big step forward with a local club named Tema Youth, which was playing in the second division. He competed in the play-offs for promotion to the First Division. He was noticed by scouts and his current agent, José Giménez due to his great performances. Gimenez took an interest in him in 2011 despite not having seen him play before.

As soon as he saw him, he saw his potential and took him to Spain, where he had a trial with Atlético Madrid's youth team midway through the season and impressed Óscar Mena, who at the time was coaching a youth team that also included a player called Óliver Torres. Within four months, he made the leap and in one season he was already in the reserve team.

It was announced on 13 July 2013 that Mallorca has signed Thomas Partey on a season-long loan deal. During his press conference, the player said: "I am very happy to be here. Thomas Partey was born to a large family of eight children in Ghana. His father Jacob was a football coach and had his own team in Ghana. Thomas started learning football in his father’s team. He is the eldest child of the family.

He has always stated in his interviews that his dad has sacrificed a lot for him to become a successful football player. He has said once that to get the money required for his trip to Europe to attend a trial with Atletico Madrid, his dad had to sell some stuff from their house.
