Will Hansi Flick and Luis Enrique Come Back to Club Football Before the 2024 Euros?

The 2024 Euros will be here before we know it. There’s a certain magic about international tournaments, they create a buzz like no other.

International tournaments can be very interesting that people who have no interest in domestic leagues follow in earnest, taking part in

football betting

and supporting their national side.

Two of the world’s most celebrated managers, Luis Enrique and Hansi Flick, struggled at the last international tournament. Their teams, the Spanish and German national sides respectively, underperformed, with both coaches receiving heavy criticism. Could we see either manager return to club football before the 2024 Euros? Find out here.

Luis Enrique

Luis Enrique had an illustrious career as a player. Playing for both Real Madrid and Barcelona, he won a host of honours and accolades.

His move into coaching was similarly successful. His first senior management position was at Roma, and while this didn’t go quite as planned, it was an essential lesson that would stand him in good stead for his future roles. After returning to Spain and spending a brief spell at Celta, Enrique took over as manager of Barcelona, where he won a treble in his first year in charge and then a double in his second.

Enrique took charge as manager of the Spanish national side in 2018. He briefly resigned for family reasons in 2019, before being reappointed the same year. Under his leadership, Spain reached the semi-finals of the 2020 Euros, where they were knocked out by Italy, and secured second place in the 2021 Nations League.

In the 2022 World Cup, Spain started off brightly with a 7 – 0 demolition of Costa Rica. However, they went on to draw 1 – 1 with Germany and lose 1 – 2 to Japan, only narrowly qualifying for the next round. In the round of 16, they faced Morocco and were

knocked out on penalties

Enrique resigned at the end of this campaign, expressing his wish to return to club football. Where could we expect to see him go? He’s currently among the frontrunners to replace Graham Potter, who has struggled to make any kind of impact since taking over as manager of Chelsea.

 Hansi Flick

Germany has an even more torrid time than Spain at the World Cup. After a shock 2 – 1 loss to Japan and a draw with Spain,

Germany failed to qualify

for the knockout stages for the second consecutive tournament.

Surprisingly, manager Hansi Flick remained in his position, despite widespread condemnation of his tactics and team selection. However, Germany are deemed to be going through something of a transitional period, which should perhaps have been expected after so many years of dominance.

Flick may be given the time to build something new, and restore Germany as the footballing superpower we all know it to be. Will Flick be up to the task? He’s certainly got the credential, having previously won both the Bundesliga and the Champions League with Bayern Munich.

Will we see Hansi Flick return to club football before the 2024 Euros? Given that he is still the manager of the German national side, it seems unlikely, but you never know in football.

Conclusion

Of the two, we’re more likely to see Luis Enrique return to club football before the 2024 Euros, as he looks likely to take over at Chelsea.
