Buffon: ‘Dybala will benefit from joining Roma instead of Inter’

Close to a switch to Juventus arch-rivals Inter after the expiration of his contract, the Argentine star opted to sign for Jose Mourinho’s Roma instead as Juventus great Gianluigi Buffon is glad Dybala did not join Inter

The Argentine forward joined

Roma

after his contract with Juventus was allowed to run out. Dybala seemed like he would choose Inter after leaving Juventus, but Nerazzurri managing director Giuseppe Marotta said last week that the club had "no room" and "no need" to make that deal, leading the Argentine to join Roma.

Gianluigi Buffon

, who spent five seasons with Dybala in Turin, told

La Gazzetta dello Sport

:

"Paulo had the right to choose after his exit from Juventus on a free transfer.

"In the past few weeks, Dybala could have gone to Inter, Roma or Napoli and I hoped he would have chosen either of the latter two. I hoped it for his career.

"Paulo needed an emotional shock and I was certain that only Roma and Napoli could have given that to him. I wrote it to him in a message and I am happy to see him at Roma."

Scoring 103 goals in 299 outings in his decade in Serie A with Palermo and

Juve

, Dybala joined the Europa Conference League champions, Roma, the first Italian side to win a major European competition since Inter triumphed in the Champions League in 2010.

Paulo Dybala

said,

"Roma won a very important trophy, and they want to be ambitious for the future." "With the help of the coach and the players, Roma has grown. We want to win each game and then see where we stand. There are teams ahead of us in the race for the Scudetto right now, so we need to work hard to do well.

"I know there is a strong desire, but it's too soon to talk about it. I like to win, though."
