Atalanta defender Jose Luis Palomino fails doping test

Jose Luis Palomino who plays for Serie A side Atalanta has failed a doping test.

Atalanta

has announced that

Jose Luis Palomino

has been suspended after failing a doping test  pending further investigation and a repeat test. Atalanta medical staff and Palomino have to present a list of substances he has taken and more tests will be performed.

At first, it was reported that the Argentine international had tested positive for nandrolone but now Atalanta has confirmed that Palomino’s test showed the presence of a clostebol metabolite. Clostebol is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid that is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Nandrolone appeared repeatedly in doping tests in Serie A during the early 2000s, but it was later found that the substance was included and not stated on the labels of some vitamin integrators. Among those who tested positive for the substance were Edgar Davids and Pep Guardiola.

The 32-year-old center-back joined Atalanta in 2017. He has played in 202 matches in all competitions.

Rennes

reportedly was interested in signing Palomino and discussions were underway between the two parties but it remains to be seen what will happen now he has failed a doping test.
